Day 32 · 1 October 2026
Chapter 1 · 3 days to the chapter deadline
- Roadmapping
The start of a new month seems like as good a time as any to be reflective as well as proflective (totally real not made up word) about the new state of the project and where I see it going and what counts as success...
I guess I'm just more sensitive to this because it's been over a month and my arbitrary deadline does seem to loom quite large. 3 days to go and seemingly still so much to do. The good thing is it's usable. It's fully usable and I've been doing so myself without much trouble.
The core of it is now there, the receiving and responding flows are locked down and working well and general administration is also working too. I think what this deadline actually means isn't that it's going to be "ready" 100% but rather that it's going to be "ready to show". I'm proud of what i've done and it makes sense to show that this isn't some kind of vapourware.
I really like this daily development log format though! Because of this I've actually created a CMS that I actually like using and not just one I put up with. That's what i find with these personally-driven projects that i do. Because I use them I update them as and when I need to, as and when I get annoyed so much that I stop something and have to fix it (like moving the CMS to another provider). It's more stable now and I don't have to think about it. It's the same with Postie. I want to do something and i need to get it done in order to move on. Maybe that's ADHD, maybe it's just obsession but we all need a driving force for these projects. My driving force is my own annoyance. "Why can't this be better?"
Roadmap for after the deadline in 3 days:
- IMAP Integration (Cloudflare isn't built for this out of the box so will have to figure something)
- Migrations (to Postie from Google, M365, IONOS)
- Onboarding flow (not dealing with payments just yet)
Exciting things ahead.
