- CMS Migration
Nearly 4 months ago to the day I began a project consolidating all my site content away from individual md files into a CMS that was lightweight, fast and expandable. I made CMSTron on as a way to try a new cloud project Lakebed which has everything from auth, to db, to storage built in. It acts as much like an abstraction above everything making it easy for yourself (and agents) to just focus on building.
I really like it and moved all of my sites (3 in total at the time) over from various different frameworks over to it. The thing about lakebed though is it's in alpha. Now worth saying I knew this going in... I've always been one to mess around with new technologies and cool new projects because I'm a builder and tinkerer at heart. I actually find it fun to make these small little projects to solve issues. Lakebed felt like the best way forward.
However, with alpha projects there are catches (ones that i knew going in to be fair) like instability. I had been having stability issues recently due to some changes they made in the websocket and authentication layer which meant that I couldn't trust it not "reauth" me every so often - seemingly randomly - which meant I lost a bit of work between the last auto save and when it reauthed. I had done mitigations that it would "save updates" every 15 seconds and keep a browser copy cached in case anything happened but honestly the experience became frustrating that I could no longer rely on it as much as I did.
A few days ago I was using it, I sent off a dev log published and noticed i forgot to add the tags so did so pressed publish and "failed"... removed some, still "failed"... didn't think much of it at the time and then tried to write a new dev log today and it wouldn't even create the section or a post without "failed"...
Knew it was a database related issue so I look at it and the database was 99.9% full... nearing the total of 1MB. I messaged Theo Browne (the creator of Lakebed) for an increase in db but as I still needed to post (not only on this site but others too) I decided to ask the new GPT-6-Sol in order to port the system over to Tanstack Start / Cloudflare / WorkOS (which has become my framework of choice). Pointed it to the CMSTron repo and it reproduced it - specifically with backwards-compatible CMSTron API so I didn't have to update the sites at all. It did this in 30 minutes...
It would've been a ball ache without AI.
